Operators of ‘World’s Best Supermarket’ plan to repeat the experience at West Lakes
The operators of the ‘World’s Best Supermarket’ are set to repeat their award winning customer service with the announcement that they’ll be a cornerstone tenant in the exciting new retail precinct of WEST.
South Australian family company, Commercial Retail Group (CRG) own and operate the multi- award winning Frewville Foodland, which won the International Retailer of The Year ‘Excellence Award’ at the IGA Conference in the United States in 2016 and again in 2017.
The proposed site for their new fresh food market at WEST is substantially larger than the Chapley family’s operation in Frewville.
WEST Project Director Chris Menz, says the announcement that WEST has secured such a prestigious lead retailer sets the tone for what will be on offer in WEST’s bespoke ‘Charles Street’ precinct.
“We’re delighted to have the Chapley family on board and thrilled that their award winning commitment to delivering first class retail experiences and customer service is set to be shared with the WEST community.”
CRG Director Spero Chapley – son of founder Nick Chapley – said the new venture in Adelaide’s premium residential development would continue to build on the company’s hard earned reputation and could generate more than 400 local jobs.
“Our enthusiasm in service to our community and in-depth knowledge and excitement about the products we sell derives from our values, over some 65 years. A continuous dedication to quality, brands, suppliers, farmers, growers, team wellbeing and our local community,” he said.
The Chapley family set themselves high standards of excellence and continually experiment and innovate in order to create growth and opportunities. What motivates the family most is creating real growth in jobs and careers.
“We believe in local jobs which is why you won’t find self-service checkouts in our stores,” said Mr Chapley. “That same commitment to everything we do, will be at the heart of our new development at WEST.”
According to Mr Menz, the new retail offerings in the boutique Charles Street area will include a restaurant and coffee precinct that will create a positive and unique ambience, a social setting and a market place where everyone is welcomed.
The street and marketplace will include restaurants, home, lifestyle and specialty food stores, along with a potential community and childcare centre, health facilities and a playground.
“We’re now looking for high quality and experienced, retail operators and owners to join us at WEST and are currently inviting formal registrations of interest,” he said.
Local MP and Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Stephen Mullighan welcomed the announcement and the potential job creation for the western suburbs.
“The Chapley family and Commercial & General both have a reputation for investing in South Australian communities and creating local jobs, especially for young people,” he said.
“With the new Foodland supermarket locked in, more quality businesses should now be encouraged to set up in the WEST development, which will deliver even more benefits and jobs for our community. Commercial & General and the Chapleys should be congratulated for this great initiative.”
City of Charles Sturt Mayor, Angela Evans was also enthusiastic about the news.
“This is just another sign of the regeneration and continuing growth of West Lakes and the western suburbs,” she said.
“We’ve always known it’s a special part of Adelaide to live in and we’re delighted that the growing WEST community will also enjoy the very best of the unique coastal living that our locals love so well, in a new master-planned development.”
Mr Menz said the developers hoped to start construction on the Charles Street precinct in 2018.
“We always said that one of the design mantras for WEST was to develop a community that people wanted to come home to, where people didn’t feel like they had to go somewhere else to enjoy a great lifestyle and amenities.
“We believe the Charles Street precinct will deliver just that, in a genuinely connected local community which offers a little a bit of everything that people enjoy, right on their doorstep.”
